The Terriers’ unbeaten opening to their League One campaign came to an end at the weekend
Huddersfield Town striker Ashley Fletcher insists his side have “made a really good start to the season” despite Saturday’s setback at Bromley.
The Terriers’ unbeaten opening to their League One campaign was brought to an end at Hayes Lane at the weekend, with the Ravens claiming a 2-1 victory.
The loss leaves Town fourth in the table, with Martin Drury’s side having picked up 12 points from their first seven matches of the season.
The Terriers have registered victories against AFC Wimbledon, Cambridge United and Oxford United so far, as well as draws with MK Dons, Notts County and Mansfield Town, prior to Saturday’s defeat.
Town have a two-week gap in their schedule owing to the international break, and discussing whether the hiatus is welcome at this time, Fletcher told BBC Radio Leeds: “Not after today, I think we would all really want to get back to it, and put it right, if it was Tuesday night or next Saturday for example, so this will sting a little bit I think, but again, we’re in a fantastic position I think. I’ve checked the table and I think we’re fourth, and all is not lost.
“I think we’ve made a really good start to the season overall, coming here unbeaten and then obviously we lost today, but it can’t overshadow the work that we’ve done since pre-season, getting to that stage, and I think we all would’ve taken that at the start of the season, so a lot of positives to take, and we’ll be looking forward to getting to I think it’s Burton the next one, and putting this right.”
After taking ten points from their opening four games, Town have been frustrated in their winless last three matches.
The Terriers have outperformed their most recent opponents, but have been unable to turn their statistical dominance into victories.
Town have had 55 shots in their last three league games but have netted just twice, and Fletcher acknowledged: “The squad that we’ve assembled is really top drawer, and we just need to find that ruthlessness that’s probably evaded us the last couple of weeks, and get back to putting the ball in the back of the net with the chances we’re creating.”
