Confirmation of the refurbishment project came days after Dame Diana, who had previously raised the issue in the House of Commons, asked for an update.
In a social media post, she claimed previous work at the station had been “botched”, leading to a “downgrade in quality” that did “little for the image of Hull”.
She added: “Improvements to rail infrastructure and services in Hull will clearly take time to achieve.
“I hope a modest, but welcome, start can be made by finally sorting out the unsatisfactory situation that has prevailed for some six years now.”
TPE said that while the work takes place, temporary facilities will be outside the station next to the Royal Hotel on Ferensway.
Accessible toilets will still be available inside the station, and the waiting area will be temporarily relocated to the existing ticket hall.
