The York Press is proud to support YO1 Radio in organising a special night, and is looking forward to the evening – which is taking place at York Barbican on Thursday, June 19.
The judges met at the YO1 Radio office in April to review all the entries to the Sports Awards, and to make recommendations for all of those that should be shortlisted.
Today, we feature those that made it through the rigorous process to be one of our finalists.
Our judges made particularly comment in the number of fantastic nominations coming forward, and that we should be proud of the vast rage of great sports people we have in York and North Yorkshire.
Steve Lowe, sales director at The Press said: “We work closely with YO1 Radio on lots of projects and it was great to be asked to help them organise the awards and to publicize these wonderful sports people in this supplement today, we are looking forward to the awards night and good luck to all the finalists.”
Managing Director of YO1 Radio and Media, Wayne Chadwick, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing the Sports Awards back this year, after taking over from the longstanding Active York awards, and along with The Press, YO1 Radio aims to celebrate the city and its sport.

Paula Stainton, the manager of the York City FC Foundation, said she was “delighted” to help in bringing the sports awards back.
“There are so many incredible athletes, competing in so many sports representing our city, who deserve to be celebrated and for the wider community to hear more about them,” Paula said.
“It’s always amazing to recognise the invaluable efforts of the coaches, volunteers, schools, grassroots clubs and other organisations who champion sport and physical activity and are so often the unsung heroes.”
