York beaten by Harrogate as top two pull clear in the ECB Premier

Harrogate defeated their North Yorkshire rivals by 86 runs as York elected to field first, only to witness an impressive batting display from the home side.

Jack Shutt (58), David Stiff (49) and Hector Hamill (30) were the pick of the bunch as Harrogate reached 221 runs from their 50 overs, despite three catches from York’s Tom Brooks.

Three lbw’s in quick succession meant that York were struggling early on when their chance to bat came, being all out after just 135 runs.

Castleford remain top of the ECB Yorkshire Premier League North after defeating Woodhouse Grange by 29 runs.

Fourth from bottom Woodhouse Grange were unable to provide any shocks, as Castleford, batting first, struck 255 runs before being all out in the final over.

Scott Hopkinson (57), David Wainwright (47) and Liam Hyde (40) led Castleford to their win, despite some hopeful batting from the visitors, who had performances from Lee Goddard (64) and Zak Wilson (46) to be happy with.

Now in second spot, Sheriff Hutton Bridge kept up their good form by beating Hull Zingari by 72 runs.

Impressive efforts from Thomas Shorthouse (73), Clark Doughney (65) and Alex Liley (61) spearheaded Sheriff Hutton Bridge to the win, with the visitors batting first in East Yorkshire.

An inspiration display from Snehal Kauthankar (111no) was not enough for Hull, who struggled without their key man who retired after 105 bowls.

Sessay were unable to back up a first win of the season last weekend, falling to Knaresborough by a remarkable ten wickets.

Sessay had elected to bat first, but were all out after 47 overs and 165 runs, with Henry Stevens’ 34 the best on the day for the bottom side.

It took just Blake Weymouth (81no) and William Wade (76no) for Knaresborough to clinch a win, seeing them remain in seventh.

The last match of the weekend was between Clifton Alliance and Beverley Town, with the latter winning by four wickets.

Beverley had chosen to field first but were seen almost regretting that decision, with a sublime display from Edward Wade (106), before he was caught out by Gregory Whyley.

Clifton Alliance’s 234 runs were surpassed by Beverley after 49 overs, with Paul Ellis (76no) leading the charge.
