Sam Bailey, who won the 10th series of the talent show in 2013, and Nina Wadia, who played Zainab Masood in the BBC soap opera, called at Sam Olgar Hair in Bridge Street today (Friday, March 21).
The pair are currently starring in NOW That’s What I Call a Musical at the Grand Opera House.
“They love York,” owner Sam Olgar told The Press. “Sam and Nina are going to come back.”
Sam, who opened the shop 10 years ago, said he previously met Wadia when she was in York two years ago performing as Fairy Sugarsnap in the Jack and the Beanstalk York Theatre Royal pantomime.
“We know Nina. She came in two years ago,” he said. “Then she just booked again – she loves York. It’s so exciting!”
Sam said Wadia, who lives in London, had a colour and cut while Bailey, who lives in Leicester, opted for a blow dry and styling.

“Thank you [Sam Olgar], she bouncy!,” she wrote to her 89,800 followers, as well as a photograph with Sam captioned: “The man himself!”
Sam said today was not the first time that celebrities had visited the salon.
“I’ve had quite a lot of celebrities come in,” he said.
In 2020, The Press told how British comedian Katy Brand had her hair done at Sam’s salon.
“We do get a lot of actors and famous people from London. Katy was really nice,” he said at the time.
Sam said customers continue to travel far and wide to visit the salon.
“Forty per cent of our customers are from London,” he said. “They love our job.”
