THERE is nothing remotely ‘free’ about the populism that UKIP / Reform party member Judith Morris champions.
She loves personal attacks, as populists do, but dodges the issue of why should a foreign multi-billionaire be allowed to meddle in British politics.
Musk is allegedly considering buying a political party in the UK, using his money to drown out the voices of others and shape the UK to his liking. He will expect a return, as he expects one from Trump whose election he has recently bought in the US.
We British citizens, ordinary little people, cannot throw £100 million at promoting our views in the media. If freedom of speech belongs to those who have the most money then it isn’t freedom at all. It is abuse. We have all witnessed the powerful using money to avoid being held accountable for their crimes.
The impression I get is that Reform really don’t care where or who the money comes from as long as they get it. They know what money buys. Like Trump and Musk, Putin, Le Pen et al, they don’t give a monkey’s about freedom of thought and speech; they are interested only in taking power.

Happy New Year – not
A NEW year should inspire confidence in the future therefore it is such a shame 2025 offers the opposite.
A government devoid of basic political competence; a civil service which performs solely in its own interest; an NHS struggling to cope despite costing billions; individual success smothered by Labour’s addiction to envy; utter idiots in charge of net zero; a Church of England literally on its knees; the only sign of growth a proliferation of new quangos set up by Starmer, otherwise known as very expensive exponents of self opinionated garbage similar to the man himself – Happy New Year.

Dream on Deamer!
I DISAGREE with DM Deamer, a regular contributed to The Press, about this person’s ideas on roads in York.
If I lived in Acomb or Wigginton, under his solution if my elderly mother broke her hip I would drive to an out-of-town bus shuttle service, take mum out of car on to bus, when it arrives, and go to hospital.
D M Deamer dream on!
Opening all roads anywhere near the hospital is the easy solution.

What a wash out
NEW Year’s evening was absolutely appalling in York: strong winds and lashings of rain.
The television was pathetic with a choice of the soaps, a re-run of old programmes and films, or the highlights of the train crash of the year 2024 turned out to be.
After viewing what I personally believe was the best TV of the year – Guy Martin and one of his challenges – I retired to bed early.
At midnight the Minster bells boomed out louder than normal, I imagine that the low cloud and heavy rain had somehow deflected the sound down similar to an echo.
Likewise the bang and the flash of fireworks were somehow filtered by the clouds creating a muffled bang and an eerie glow in the sky – very strange.
A very happy new year to all the many Press readers.
