- Halle Berry and Van Hunt revealed that he has proposed to the actress—though she hasn’t accepted the offer yet.
- The two appeared on the Today Show revealing the news.
- Berry said they will probably get married eventually but her past relationship experience has made her hesitant.
Halle Berry and her longtime boyfriend Van Hunt just dropped some major tea about their relationship status. TL;DR: Hunt proposed but Berry hasn’t accepted the engagement yet.
After appearing on the Today With Jenna & Friends together, Hunt told Today.com that he has put out the offer and is still waiting on a response. “I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” he said. “It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”

As for why Berry hasn’t given her boyfriend an answer yet? It has nothing to do with her love for Hunt—who she’s been publicly dating since 2020—but rather her past experiences with the institution. “Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way,” she explained. “We don’t.”

Berry was previously married to MLB player David Justice, Eric Benét, and Olivier Martinez, with whom she shares 11-year-old son, Maceo-Robert Martinez. She also shares 17-year-old daughter, Nahla, with her ex Gabriel Aubry.

Berry is, however, planning on saying “yes” to Hunt “soon.” “I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” she said. “And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
During their appearance on the show, Berry also defended the couple’s steamy Mother’s Day post, which featured a PDA-filled video from their bed. After getting backlash for the clip, Berry said “It’s not Kids’ Day. It’s called Mother’s Day,” before adding that sex is “the most natural thing we do.”
“We have sex. Men do it. Women do it. So we’re in bed. So what?” she said. “It should be okay to celebrate that and not be criticized for talking about love in a time like this, in a world like this today. We should talk more about loving each other and not fighting.”
