Pared back interiors pieces by George Young . @Theartist George Younge
New to York Open Studios, George Younge is an interior designer and furniture maker based within the city walls, a hop, skip and jump from the centre. A decade spent lecturing in medieval literature at the University of York has given George an appreciation of the history of craft, and his love of modern Greek culture lends his work a distinctive, paired-back look. Often found working with oak, stone, copper and lead, George says: ‘I can’t wait to welcome visitors and show them some of the freestanding pieces of furniture I’ve made in the setting of the home that I’ve renovated and decorated’.

Nic works in low-impact printmaking mediums. @theartist Nic Fyfe
Nic’s work is a balance of bold, large-scale banners and smaller pocket-sized prints. Large scale pieces are simple but ambiguous forms that ask the viewer to engage with their own interpretations of a better world. Smaller works, in the form of zines and miniature books, offer a more intimate opportunity for reflection. Nic works in low-impact printmaking mediums including wood, lino and riso – sustainable materials in keeping with messages of transformation. Located near the station, Nic’s work is enhanced by a bright and airy studio. Says Nic: ‘My aim is to engage viewers with themes of radical hope, producing work that is a catalyst for conversations and showing the agency that we all have to be a part of positive change. I can’t wait to share this with YOS visitors!’
