SO the council is once again embarking on a grand scheme to improve infrastructure, this time for walking and cycling (The Press, December 17).
Maybe they would be better off starting with getting the basics right?
Take this photo of a post erected in Tang Hall Lane a few months ago, it couldn’t have been put in a worse position and as yet it doesn’t even have a sign on it!
Or how about tackling cars that are parked on footpaths and cycleways?
Or how about the state of pavements and roads?
Our politicians just love grand schemes but I for one would like them much more if they just ensured that what we already have is looked after !

Water leak is ‘accident waiting to happen’
FOR a couple of weeks now water has been seeping out from a previous attempt to repair a water leak in the road on Lord Mayors Walk.
Not a flood but enough to cover the road with a film of water, not a real problem you would think but it’s situated on Lord Mayors Walk next to the Bile Beans wall art and on the brow of the hill, flowing down towards the Monkgate traffic lights.
The first frost and the hill will become a treacherous ice rink, it’s an accident waiting to happen.
With speeding traffic approaching the traffic lights it doesn’t bare to think of the consequences as vehicles skid down the road.
It should be repaired with great urgency – a stitch in time, saves nine.

Labour supporter should join the panto or circus
I FEEL I must side with regular Press correspondent Matthew Laverack and agree wholeheartedly with his comments about your southern correspondent Geoffrey Brooking’s constant apologetic offerings on the Labour party.
The last paragraph on one offering (The Press, December 9) made me laugh out loud, quote: “Sir Keir Starmer is making our country respected on the world stage again and on the home front Sir Keir Starmer is making Britain great again”.
Consider the latest poll on voting intentions: some 61 per cent of the voting population are completely dissatisfied with what the Labour Party are doing to our country.
As it is the pantomime season, I would suggest Mr Geoffrey Brooking should waste no time in auditioning as one of the clowns, or maybe a joker if there is a Panto that uses those characters, or would a circus be more fitting?

Spare a thought for the lonely and for carers
THIS has been a year full of change and uncertainty and, as we look forward to 2025, we do not know what sort of year we are in for.
But one thing that should never change is our desire and ability to care for one another.
This Christmas and New Year there will be many people, perhaps our neighbours and colleagues, who will find the festive period the loneliest time of the year. Spare a thought for them and, if you can, call in and say hello. For some it might be the only contact they get.
And, as always, spare a thought for those who will be working over the festive period to make sure that we and our loved ones are safe and get the care they need. A huge thank you to all who work in the emergency services, the NHS and of course my own sector, social care, for foregoing their celebrations to work.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
