As The Press reported, two men, ages 69 and 49 died within five days of each other in adjoining properties in Gatesgarth Close, Scarborough.
After the most recent death on Monday, May 26 – which followed the first on May 21 – North Yorkshire Police chose to evacuate some nearby residents as investigations continued.
“At this time there is no suggestion that there is any risk to the wider community and our enquiries so far have not led to any change in this position,” the force said in an update.
They added: “Our thanks go to local people, in particular the residents of Gatesgarth Close for their patience and understanding while we remain at the scene.”
Officers will remain at the scene over the weekend, they said, until all work at the properties has concluded. The circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be determined.
“Our thoughts remain with the men’s families who are being supported by specially trained officers at this sad time,” a police spokesperson said.
