Ian Franklin, 33, is accused of fatally stabbing Mr Marshall, 35, in the early hours of Saturday, August 17 in York’s Bell Farm Estate.
A second York man, 33-year-old Jason Rhodes, of Union Terrace, was also arrested in connection with the incident in Roche Avenue and was charged with affray and two counts of carrying a bladed article.
Today (Wednesday, August 21) at Leeds Crown Court, Judge Andrew Stubbs KC set a trial date of February 10 next year for both defendants. The trial is expected to last between five and seven days.
The defendants were arrested following reports of a serious assault in the estate at about 4.45am on Saturday. Mr Marshall was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Franklin, of Roche Avenue, was subsequently charged with murder and possessing a bladed article.
Neither of the defendants, who have both been remanded in custody, has yet entered formal pleas to the charges.
Mr Gregory’s family issued a statement in which they said their “hearts are broken”.
The statement added: “It’s with the deepest sadness that we as a family are having to announce the sudden passing of Greg Marshall, our beloved son, father, husband, brother, uncle and loyal friend to many far and wide.”
The two defendants will next appear for a plea-and-trial-preparation hearing on September 17. They were both remanded in custody until then.
