Academy Award nominee and Venom star Tom Hardy has teased his return as Alfie Solomons in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, which has now been officially greenlit by Netflix. Speaking with Sky News, Hardy was asked whether audiences would see his cockney Jewish gang leader make a comeback alongside Oscar winner Cillian Murphy’s character Tommy Shelby, and the actor reacted with huge excitement…
“100%. Alfie will definitely make an appearance, but I don’t know when… and I don’t even know if he will, that’s just me punting.”
So, while he cannot confirm that he will once again share more intense scenes with Cillian Murphy in the world of Peaky Blinders, Hardy is clearly hopeful that it will come to pass. The character Alfie Solomons has been a part of the Peaky Blinders tapestry since the second season and has often played a big part in Tommy Shelby’s schemes. While the pair have to come to blows at times (with Tommy even shooting him in the face), there has always been a mutual respect between the two, and no doubt audiences would love to see both the characters and their respective actors share the screen in the Peaky Blinders movie.
Cillian Murphy Will Return as Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders Movie
Debuting back in 2013, Peaky Blinders follows Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the dangerous leader of the Peaky Blinders, a criminal gang based in Birmingham in 1919. The series came to an end with its sixth season in 2022, and sees Tommy riding off into the sunset, likely into a new life, with the world believing him dead.
Due to this ending, it was thought that the Peaky Blinders movie would focus on other characters outside of Tommy Shelby, but Murphy is now confirmed to return, and thus we can expect Tommy to be dragged back into the fray. In a statement following the confirmation of his comeback, Murphy said to the BBC…
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”

Alfie Solomons was easily one of the best characters in Peaky Blinders. Here are some of the best moments of Tom Hardy’s character in the show.
Plot details for the Peaky Blinders movie remain under wraps at present, but creator Steven Knight has revealed that the movie will center on the “new generation” of characters, including some from the last season.
“The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. How the story will unfold, I don’t know. What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film. For all we know somebody is going to pop out – I think I know who it’s going to be. In series six we’re bringing in the new generation, and they are going to be part of what happens in the film. I think it’s finding those actors that you just watch and you think, there you go. There’s the future.”
