“In 1977, five rogue police officers formulate a plan to rob three criminal strongholds – the Hong Kong Triads, the Italian Mafia, and the Harlem Mob – all in one night. When a blackout sweeps the city the night of the robbery, the crew is forced to navigate a hellish landscape as years of being overworked and underpaid forces each of them to confront their own morality.”
As per a report by Deadline, 77 Blackout is all set to be helmed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who is best known for the James Bond outing No Time to Die, as well as Beasts of No Nation, Jane Eyre, True Detective, Maniac, and Masters of the Air. Fukunaga’s hiring for 77 Blackout is likely to be a somewhat controversial one, as the filmmaker was recently accused of misconduct by several sources.
77 Blackout will be introduced by Black Bear at the Cannes market, with international distribution rights up for grabs. WME will handle the movie in the United States. The movie has been written by Frank John Hughes with Fukunaga making “revisions.”
