Ever since Incredibles 2 hit theaters back in 2018, fans have been wondering one thing: where’s the Incredibles 3? Well, it looks like fans have finally gotten their wish courtesy of D23. Yes, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has now announced Incredibles 3 as part of their annual D23 conference. The news came courtesy of Peter Docter, the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar. Not only has the long-awaited Disney/Pixar threequel now been announced, the project has found the perfect director in Brad Bird, the filmmaker behind the first and second movies.

,” Docter announced briefly. “Brad Bird is developing it right now.”
Brad Bird was the main creative influence behind the previous two films in the Pixar superhero franchise and directed both The Incredibles and Incredibles 2. The Incredibles movies are Pixar’s answer to superheroes: full of art deco and mid-modern esthetics, the Incredibles series takes place in a retro setting where superheroes have been outlawed. The age of superheroes is bygone until Bob Parr (Craig T. Nelson) is called out of retirement to handle an old friend gone rogue. The first outing in particular is considered one of Disney and Pixar’s best, and no doubt fans will be hugely excited by the news that we will once again spend time with Mr. Incredible, Elastagirl, and the rest of the family.
What Will Incredibles 3 Be About?
Incredibles 2 ended with the re-legalization of superheroes, opening up a host of new possibilities for Incredibles 3. Now that the Parr family no longer has to operate underground, they may finally be able to spend some time as a real super-team. Despite being Pixar’s send-up of the Fantastic Four, the family has been relatively low-key in-universe, unable to fight crime out in the open. Now that the family is legally able to fight crime, it might be time to explore how civilians react to the return of superheroes.

Incredibles 2 also introduced a whole new roster of superheroes into the universe, opening up the possibility for more new super-powered characters in Incredibles 3. In fact, the Incredibles franchise may go somewhere it hasn’t gone before, and feature a super-powered villain as the main threat. So far, both Syndrome (Jason Lee) and Evelyn Deaver (Catherine Keener) have been normal humans, hell-bent on bringing down superhero society at any cost.
It would be a breath of fresh air if the next Incredibles villain is super-powered and capable of taking the family on in a fight. While The Incredibles isn’t known for incredible violence, it is known for its heart, and having the family deal with someone using their powers for evil could bring out a whole new side to the Parrs. After all, the Parr family has mostly been shown using their abilities for good, and while the younger members have been shown struggling not to use their powers for self-gain, they’ve never faced a villain that actively uses their powers to hurt people.
