The Thai Kitchen at The Black Bull opened in Boroughbridge in November 2023, offering something new to the fast-growing town and a way for country pubs to survive.
It was run by Leah Ladee and Olé Malathsopha, who rented the kitchen and restaurant area from pub landlord John Burgess.
However, despite reporting good trade and earning rave reviews online, the venture closed earlier this month, leaving the popular town centre pub, built in 1278, to carry on without its restaurant.

The restaurant was very popular, receiving 4.9 stars out of five on Tripadvisor, based on 28 reviews.
Google awarded it 4.7 stars out of five, based on 30 reviews.
Customers have reacted with sadness at the news, with one saying they are ‘gutted.’
Sheila Brennan said: “Really sad to hear this. You made us feel welcome on every visit. All our very best wishes wherever you go….please do publicise any future business as we loved your food.”

Pub landlord John Burgess says that Olé decided to close the restaurant side of things.
John, who took over the pub six years ago, following the death of his father Anthony, said he was unsure what to do with the kitchen and restaurant.
“I have a few ideas,” he told the Press.
He added: “Yes, it (the Thai food) was very popular,”
The Black Bull in St James Square is Grade II-listed and has been serving beer since it was built in 1278 and is reputedly the second-oldest pub in Yorkshire.
The Black Bull also offers accommodation, is listed in the Good Beer Guide and is noted for a warm, open fire. It is also said to be haunted.
