No 84 Deli & Cafe on Micklegate is said to be the “best by far” and many “totally agreed” as the food is “gorgeous”.
Meanwhile, Bread N Things offers “cracking value”.
Someone also commented: “Bread and things fourth ave loads of filling pleasant staff value for money what more do you want.”
Among the recommendations, Goodfillers on Haxby Road was one of the most popular sandwich shops around the city.
Another shared: “Got to be Goodfillers.”
It’s also been highly complimented on Google, with more than 200 reviews.
One customer wrote: “Great local sandwich shop with breakfast and hot sandwiches as well as all the old favorites, wraps and jacket potato’s etc. Cold drinks and hot (a nice looking coffee machine). Can’t go wrong. (the Breakfast Wrap is delicious and very filling, worth a try!)”

On Tripadvisor, it’s had even more praise as this local said: “Absolutely belting bacon and tomato sarnie. Amazingly friendly and genuine staff in a family run business. Observed excellent food hygiene practice during visit and the end product was fantastic. Really enjoyed the visit not just for the food. 10/10 will visit again. Thanks guys for the brilliant start to the day.”
Moving on, Bite and Basket on Boroughbridge Road was described as “absolutely awesome” and has a 5/5 rating on Tripadvisor.
York Press readers also highlighted Sunny’s Cafe and Sandwich Bar on Fulford Road for its “great food, great service and great value”.
