Roughan’s recent starts have been in cup competitions
Huddersfield Town defender Sean Roughan is striving for greater “consistency” in his performances as he looks to reclaim a starting spot in the side.
After starting five of Town’s first eight League One matches, the left-back has been benched for the last three games, with Ruben Roosken preferred in the position.
Roughan’s recent starts have been in cup competitions, with the defender playing the full 90 minutes against both Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy in recent weeks.
The left-back believes he has shown signs of improvement in his recent appearances, with the 22-year-old eager to build on those displays when he next takes to the field.
Speaking following the 1-0 defeat at Harrogate, Roughan told HTTV: “I’ve had a few chats with the gaffer (Lee Grant) throughout the last couple of weeks, and I’m an honest person, I know when my performances aren’t there and I know what to do better.
“Over the last probably three games I’ve upped it, and have started enjoying it a lot more, and that’s the main thing as a footballer, just enjoying it.
“Hopefully I can continue it along, because I pride myself on consistency, and I haven’t done that this year, so I’ll try to get back to that, and fight for my spot back whenever it is, and take the chance.”
Roughan demonstrated his ability to be consistent during his time at Lincoln City, where the defender made 149 appearances for the Imps across the final three years of his spell at Sincil Bank.
The left-back played every minute of every league game for his former side last term, prior to completing his summer switch to Town. The defender has since gone on to feature 13 times for the Terriers in all competitions to date.
