Based on the famous novel by Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features an original score composed by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
The score also pays homage to the Leslie Bricusse andAnthony Newley’s music from the 1971 film with songs including “Candy Man,” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” “Oompa Loompa Song,” and “Pure Imagination.”
The world-famous Willy Wonka is opening the gates to his mysterious factory…but only to a lucky few. Young Charlie Bucket and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a life-changing journey through Wonka’s world of pure imagination including chocolate waterfalls, nutty squirrels and the great glass elevator, all to be revealed by Wonka’s army of curious Oompa-Loompas.
When Charlie Bucket finds one of the five golden tickets to the Wonka Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the other winners can’t wait to feast on the sweets of their dreams. But beyond the gates, they discover more than just remarkable edible delights. As they embark on an extraordinary journey through Willy Wonka’s marvellous mind, they soon learn that nobody leaves the same way that they arrived.
Ryedale Youth Theatre was formed in 1991 and is a voluntary organisation.
A spokesperson said; “The main purpose of our work is to train young people (age 8-18) in the Ryedale and York areas in all aspects of the performing arts and in particular musical theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes. Each Easter we welcome up to 70 young people to participate in a theatre production, an enriching experience that inspires creativity, teamwork and confidence. Our organisation is entirely run by dedicated volunteers and we rely heavily on the generosity of our supporters to fund our productions.”
Ryedale Youth Theatre’s production of Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory The Musical“ will take place at The Milton Rooms, Malton from April 9 to 12, evenings at 7.15 pm and Thursday and Saturday Matinees at 2pm.
