Regina King has long been celebrated as one of Hollywood’s most versatile talents. From her early days on television to her Academy Award–winning role in If Beale Street Could Talk, she has built a career defined by both brilliance and longevity. Yet now, King is stepping into a new chapter—one that feels as personal as it is creative. She has introduced the world to MianU Wine, a project born not only from her passion for storytelling but also from love, remembrance, and resilience.
The launch of MianU marks more than just a business venture. It is a deeply intimate journey into legacy, healing, and connection. At its heart is King’s late son, Ian Desduné, who tragically passed away in 2022 at just 26 years old. For Regina King, this is no ordinary wine label. Instead, MianU stands as a living tribute—a continuation of Ian’s spirit, woven into every bottle and every toast shared among friends and family.
MianU Wine: A New Chapter for Regina King
As an actor, director, and executive producer, Regina King has always been a storyteller. With MianU, she extends that gift of narrative beyond the screen, crafting meaning through wine. She describes MianU, pronounced “me and you,” as a symbol of shared experiences, where the simple act of opening a bottle becomes an invitation to connect.
The label’s debut is an orange wine sourced from Mendocino County in California, and the choice is anything but arbitrary. It was Ian, her late son, who first introduced her to orange wine, sparking a memory that has since become a cornerstone of MianU’s identity. King recalls how Ian had a rare gift for elevating the ordinary, turning everyday moments into extraordinary ones. Introducing her to the layered complexity of orange wine was one such moment, now immortalized in every pour of MianU.
Remembering Ian Through MianU
The role of Regina King’s son in this story cannot be overstated. Ian wasn’t just the one who sparked her appreciation for wine; he was the reason she learned that every bottle could hold meaning. King recalls saving two bottles from her very first winery visit at Chimney Rock, intending to open them with Ian on his 21st birthday. Later, it was Ian who introduced her to The Prisoner, a bold red blend that revealed to her how a single glass could tell a story far beyond taste.
Ian’s curiosity and love for discovery became the foundation of MianU. King describes him as endlessly inquisitive, someone who sought the story behind everything—a bottle of wine, a song, or even a meal. To her, MianU embodies that same spirit. “This wine isn’t just a product; it’s a continuation of his spirit,” she reflects. Every pour of MianU is both a celebration and an offering—an invitation to create new memories while carrying forward a piece of Ian’s presence.
Crafting the First Release
The inaugural MianU wine is an orange blend of Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay, both sourced from organically farmed vineyards in Mendocino County. Gewürztraminer dominates the blend and is fermented on the skins, giving the wine its vivid copper hue. In contrast, the Chardonnay is pressed before fermentation, which adds freshness and balance.
After fermentation, the wine rests for six months in neutral oak barrels before bottling. With only 500 cases produced, this debut release is as exclusive as it is personal. Moreover, Regina King didn’t just lend her name to the wine; she immersed herself fully, learning the logistics, budgeting, and detailed craft of winemaking.
Beyond Business: A Labor of Love
While celebrity wine labels often feel like branding exercises, Regina King’s MianU stands apart. It is deeply personal, raw, and emotional. King admits she had to navigate the business side of the wine industry, yet she emphasizes that the soul of MianU will always be Ian. To her, orange wine captures his essence perfectly: unfiltered, bold, and unapologetically expressive.
As a result, MianU is more than a label. It’s a living tribute. Every bottle invites reflection, reminding those who enjoy it that wine can carry memory, connection, and meaning. Even the name embodies this duality. Pronounced “me and you,” it also honors Ian, blending togetherness with remembrance in every pour.
A Legacy in Every Glass
The release of Regina King’s MianU wine marks the start of a deeply meaningful journey in the wine world. This isn’t about chasing trends or leveraging celebrity; it’s about a bond that transcends life and loss. With each glass poured, King invites people to connect, not only with the bright flavors of Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay, but with the idea that shared experiences hold the greatest power.
For King, MianU is both a personal act of healing and a gift to others. By honoring her late son, the label carries forward his spirit of curiosity, storytelling, and joy. It is proof that even amid grief, beauty can emerge. And even in loss, legacy endures.
An Authenticity Finish
In an era where many celebrities simply attach their names to wine labels, Regina King’s MianU stands apart for its authenticity and depth. More than a product, it’s about the memories it honors and the connections it inspires. Through this project, King has created a living tribute to her son and a reminder of the power of shared moments.
Rooted in love, storytelling, and legacy, MianU wine is a debut that resonates far beyond the wine world. It’s a heartfelt invitation to raise a glass, remember, and connect.
