Sadly, it is not Morphin’ Time. The new Power Rangersshow is no longer happening at Netflix, it has been revealed. In news that is sure to disappoint fans of the long-running martial arts superhero series, TV Line has said that sources have revealed the show is not moving forward, with Power Rangers owner Hasbro Entertainment now looking for “a new partner” with which to develop the project.
Netflix’s Power Rangers series has been in development for a few years now, and counts Daisy & the Six and Jessica Jones producer and Supernatural writer Jenny Klein as showrunner, who has developed the show in collaboration with Jonathan Entwistle, who is best known for The End of the F***ing World, I Am Not Okay with This, and the upcoming Karate Kid movie starring Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.

The Power Rangers Remains a Hugely Popular Cultural Phenomenon
The Power Rangers franchise first began back in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and introduced the concept of a group of high school teenagers from Angel Grove, California who are called upon by the extraterrestrial Zordon to defend the Earth from various villains as the titular Power Rangers. Featuring all manner of martial arts action, high school drama, and giant mecha, the Power Rangers has since become a global phenomenon, expanding into spinoffs, movies, comics, video games, and everything in between.
The original series still holds a place in the hearts of many, with Netflix debuting a reunion special just last year. Titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, the scripted, stand-alone 30th anniversary special reunited some of the franchise’s most beloved Rangers, including original stars David Yost and Walter E. Jones.
Jones has since explained why the original cast decided to depart the series, which largely resulted from contact disputes and unfair treatment. Speaking with Fanward earlier this year, Jones explained…
“Different people, for different reasons, changed their mind. Obviously that would be Amy Jo [Johsnon} and David Yost and Jason [David] Frank, and all of them had their own reasons for deciding, ‘You know, we don’t want to renegotiate the contract after all. We’re just going to grin and bear it.’ But we, we wanted to stand up for ourselves because we felt like we were being bullied, and we felt like we deserved more, and that we had earned the right to be treated like professional actors.”
