The 12R actually does better than the Pixel in some situations, like at the 2x zoom setting, but ultimately, the 7A offers a more consistent camera experience. On the other hand, the Galaxy A54 is worth considering if you’re after a bigger screen and better water resistance, though it also misses out on wireless charging and lacks some of the 12R’s finesse with its composite frame.

The OnePlus 12R manages to be much cheaper than its flagship sibling while still providing plenty to be excited about. Its processor performance is good enough for most people, its battery life is solid, it charges impressively fast and its camera is perfectly fine for casual snappers. It’s frustrating that OnePlus doesn’t provide longer software support. Those of you looking for a decent all-round Android phone that won’t blow your budget will be served by the OnePlus 12R.

OnePlus started its journey off as the “flagship killer,” and we definitely see that heritage in the OnePlus 12R. The phone manages to get the best out of its more expensive variant, the OnePlus 12, such as the amazing display with OnePlus’ new tech to make navigation easier when the phone is wet.

The OnePlus 12R is the best $500 smartphone I’ve ever used. If it’s not on your shopping list yet, it really needs to be.

The OnePlus 12R delivers outstanding performance and record-setting battery life for an amazingly low price (especially in the U.S.). Its camera performance can’t quite keep up with the Google Pixel 7a, but in other areas, the OnePlus 12R is one of the best midrange models out there.

Last year’s OnePlus 11R (review) was a value-for-money flagship phone that nailed several aspects to make it a compelling buy for fans who couldn’t afford the more premium OnePlus 11. The company seems happy with its strategy of launching a premium flagship and a value flagship, which is why it announced the OnePlus 12R and OnePlus 12 together a couple of weeks ago.

For the price, it’s hard to be disappointed with the vibrant and powerful OnePlus 12R. It’s a fine sibling for the OnePlus 12 – with the only downer being the so-so camera system.

So yes, the OnePlus 12R does bridge the gap between affordable and flagship. I’d totally recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a taste of flagship performance and features but doesn’t want to spend flagship-like money. At a starting price of $499, it’s a blind buy.

The OnePlus 12R is the company’s return to its super value roots, with a phone that offers a beautiful immersive screen, a good main camera, and large battery with fast charging, starting at $500. There are some compromises, such as a one-year-old Snapdragon chip and no actual zoom lens. But the value proposition is high.

The OnePlus 12R harks back to the brand’s former devices with both positive and negative consequences. There’s a focus on performance and the spec list certainly impresses for the price. However there’s some of the negative bits of OnePlus’ past included too, including a very mid-range camera array.

Despite being a more budget-friendly phone, the OnePlus 12R has enough power and features to make a very compelling case as your next smartphone.

A OnePlus 11 with a better display, bigger battery, simpler camera and lower starting price. If you priorize battery life and value over camera versatility, at this stage in 2024, this is a better OnePlus to buy over last year’s flagship.
