Saturday Night Live has just achieved another impressive Emmy run, and it is all thanks to the show’s special 50th anniversary special. SNL 50 was not only one of the most anticipated antics of the sketch comedy series, but it also provided an incredible amount of nostalgia and good comedy. It helped land SNL a wide variety of Emmy nominations.
As pointed out by Deadline, the long-running SNL has received 31 Emmy nominations, beating its previous record for Emmy nominations. Of the 31 nominations, the weekly comedy show received seven on its own, and its 50th anniversary specials received the majority. SNL 50th Anniversary Special received 12, SNL50: The Homecoming Concert received six, and SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night received three.
Its last two specials, SNL 50th The Anniversary Special: Immersive Experience and Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years Of SNL Music, received one and two nominations, respectively. Some of SNL‘s best recent sketches came from these specials. It is no wonder SNL has amassed such an impressive list of nominations. They are more than well-deserved after a successful season.
