The Terriers returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Burton Albion
Huddersfield Town boss Martin Drury admits he is “really proud” of his side for the way they have started the season.
The Terriers returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Burton Albion on Saturday, having suffered the first defeat of their League One campaign at Bromley prior to the international break.
Saturday’s victory leaves Town third in the League One table, with Drury’s side having picked up 15 points from their opening eight matches of the season.
Off the back of his side’s positive showing at the Pirelli Stadium, Drury told BBC Radio Leeds: “There’s aspects to the game we want to improve and develop, but you can’t improve everything in a couple of months.
“It’s going to take time, it’s going to take patience, and some weeks we’ll be good, some weeks we won’t. As long as we keep finding a way to pick up results and find a way to keep getting points, then over a course of a season, if people actually believe in it, and have time, I really believe in the group of players that we have.”
“Unfortunately you just don’t get it (patience). You win a game of football and you’re great, and you lose a game of football and it’s the worst performance of the season, and it’s just not accurate, so it’s frustrating,” Drury added.
“It’s frustrating to feel that, you don’t want to feel that, and you don’t want to be in a position where you’re trying to prove people wrong, particularly your own fans, you want to be playing for your fans, you don’t want to be trying to prove people wrong.
“I want us to be galvanised and I want us to stay together, because you’re not going to play well every week, you’re not going to win every week. We’ve had eight games, and I’m really, really proud of the players on how they’ve started the season. There’s loads for us to get better at, but we’re going to have to stick together and keep working to improve.”
