The striker has scored five goals so far this term
Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough has acknowledged that Huddersfield Town forward Joe Taylor “looks on fire” heading into tomorrow’s clash at Field Mill.
The striker has scored five goals so far this term, with Taylor having notched braces against Cambridge United and Oxford United, while the attacker also netted at MK Dons.
Taylor is League One’s joint-top goalscorer at this early stage of the season, and Mansfield boss Clough told iFollow Stags ahead of today’s fixture: “I’ve seen the goals as well, he looks on fire, that’s a great description of him.
“He looks confident, and every time he goes clear, he looks as though he’s going to score.”
The Stags have won both of their home matches in the league so far this term, against Doncaster Rovers and Luton Town, but have lost all three away games at Peterborough United, Reading and Bradford City.
Reflecting on his side’s positive start at Field Mill and looking ahead to tomorrow’s encounter, Clough said: “They’ve been two great performances, and two great games as well.
“It’s funny, just somehow I think at times last season we were better away from home than at home, and we’ve started this season the reverse, so another incredibly hard game.
“They’re second aren’t they Huddersfield, so another easy one for us. It’s strange how the fixtures come out, to get the four – Luton, Reading, Bradford and then Huddersfield, never mind how hard Burton’s going to be, but four unbelievably big teams, and tough games for us.”
Assessing the Terriers off the back of their strong start, the Stags’ boss said: “They’ve got some very, very good players. I think they’ve been fancied for a couple of seasons now and not quite made it.
“We had an incredible result towards the end of last season, but since then they’ve regrouped, got a few new players in and I think have started the season with a lot of confidence.”
Clough is set to come up against one of his former players tomorrow afternoon, with the manager adding: “One lad who we know very well who’s as good a player as they’ve got is Marcus Harness, who we had for a time at Burton, who’s developed I think into a very good different sort of player probably to where we used him at Burton, a little bit further forward, he’s now at times sitting a bit more, but he’s a good footballer and good on the ball.”
