Katie Holmes’s Colorblock Gown Had Major Cutouts

Katie Holmes has cemented her status as a street style icon over the decades, serving up understated quiet luxury inspiration whenever she hits the town. However, fans shouldn’t sleep on Holmes’s red carpet style, as the Dawson’s Creek alum demonstrated while making a dopamine-increasing entrance at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards. On Monday, Oct. 28, Holmes slayed the house down at one of fashion’s biggest nights in a sexy color-blocked, cut-out gown with a plunging back.

The actress traded her go-to effortless jeans-and-cardigan outfit formula for the skin-baring look, which served as much drama in the front as in the back. As she posed alongside Carolina Herrera’s creative director, Wes Gordon, on the red carpet, Holmes modeled a feel-good palette while wearing a dual-toned column gown from the brand’s spring/summer 2025 collection.

Holmes’s Carolina Herrera gown married bright red and hot pink in the vibrant design. The long-sleeved number featured a bubblegum-hued, high-neck bodice that ended right at her ribs to reveal a few inches of her stomach with large side cutouts. The scarlet skirt joined the top at her midsection but plunged into a low V design in the back. The back of the gown also featured a subtle nod to the coquette trend, thanks to a whimsical black bow with long, calf-length tails.

In contrast to the frock’s daring colors and silhouette, Holmes opted for “very demure” accessories and glam. The actress, who held Carolina Herrera’s black patent “postcard clutch” in one hand, chose a ruby pink hue for the rest of her accessories–seemingly a combination of her dress’s pink and crimson color scape–for her outing. Along with the pointy-toed leather slingback heels, Holmes sparkled with dangling Carolina Herrera gem earrings in shades of ruby, pink and purple, as well as a matching cocktail ring on her left hand.

The star let her statement jewelry shine by wearing her hair in an elegant low updo, and subtly paid homage to the pink and red notes in her outfit with a frosty mauve eyeshadow, a soft berry lip, and cheeks sculpted with a warm raspberry-hued blush.
