Ballet flats have been a constant in my wardrobe since middle school, but I’ve always had one minor gripe with the style—they aren’t very supportive. The strapless, slip-on silhouette is easy to step out of (which is not ideal for walking the unsavory sidewalks of New York City).

To my delight, Katie Holmes and Jennifer Lopez have debuted a stylish solution to my ballet flats debacle with one practical detail: straps. The two celebrities were spotted in ballerina style flats with lace up detailing that resembled a traditional ballet shoe. Holmes opted for the trending Miu Miu Buckled Ankle Tie Ballet Flats. Meanwhile, J.Lo wore a similar style in satin from Dior, which she was also seen wearing over the summer.
