Jos. Richardson & Son’s new Eden Service Station to open

Jos. Richardson & Son’s new Eden Service Station is located just off the A64 alongside the A169, next to the Eden Camp Modern History Museum.

Part of the Eden Business Park site, the 1.72-acre plot had been earmarked for a service station by developers and planning permission was already in place when Jos. Richardson & Son bought it last year.

The new fuel station will be BP-branded and the convenience store will be SPAR-branded.

SPAR is the wholesale brand of James Hall of Preston, which is Jos Richardson & Son’s long-term convenience store partner.

The hot and cold ‘food to go’ offer will include James Hall’s Clayton Park Bakery and Cheeky Coffee Co brands.

Twelve new jobs, a mix of full and part-time roles, will be created by the development of the new service station, which is being constructed by Leeds-based McFadden Building & Civil Engineering Ltd.

Joseph Richardson, managing director of Jos. Richardson & Sons, said: “The site is located just off the A64, a busy commuter route that’s also popular with tourists and day-trippers visiting the coast, York and the North York Moors. Before we bought it, the developer had already secured planning permission for the service station and drive-through restaurants.

“On another plot on the same site, there’s a new McDonald’s being developed and there’s also planning permission for a drive-through coffee shop.

“This was very appealing to us as it will make the area an important hub for the local communities of Malton and Pickering, as well as those passing on their commute to work or enjoying holidays and day trips.

“We know that the rising cost of living is still a huge concern for people so it was important to us that we could offer Cheeky Coffee Co-branded hot drinks, which have a much lower price point than many other high street coffee brands.

“This means that we can offer a bacon roll and coffee meal deal for just £4.50, which represents great value for money.”

Meanwhile, the company has invested a further £3million in its existing lorry park site at Goole, East Yorkshire.

The company has expanded its Truckstop facilities at Goole by adding a further 55 overnight spaces, as well as a new shower and welfare block, as part of a project that has been match-funded by National Highways.

This expansion follows the demolition of the former car showroom premises at Goole, which also created space for the new Starbucks and KFC restaurants that have recently opened there.

As part of a second phase of work planned for later in the year at both the Goole and Malton sites, new 150kW electric vehicle charging bays will be installed.

A fifth-generation family business that was originally founded in Goole and now has its head office at Brackenholme near Howden in East Yorkshire, Jos Richardson & Son Limited operates across East, North and West Yorkshire.

It employs almost 200 people across its existing sites.

The new Eden Service Station at Malton site will become its twelfth site when it opens its doors to customers in April.
