Jamie Lee Curtis Says Her Family Is Safe as ‘Terrifying’ L.A. Fires Continue

Jamie Lee Curtis is checking in from a safe location as fires in Los Angeles continue to blaze in the Pacific Palisades and neighboring areas.

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, Curtis, 66, shared a photo of one of the fires to Instagram and wrote in a caption, “My community and possibly my home is on fire. My family is safe. Many of my friends will lose their homes. Many other communities as well.”

“There are so many conflicting reports. With all the technology there seems to be very little information. PLEASE POST FACTS! IT WILL HELP THOSE WONDERING!” Curtis added. “It is a terrifying situation and I’m grateful to the firefighters and all of the good Samaritans who are helping people get out of the way of the blaze.”

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said on Tuesday, Jan. 7 that the fire started at 11:04 a.m. local time, and L.A. mayor Karen Bass has declared a state of emergency; according to the Associated Press. City officials said some 30,000 residents are under evacuation orders and more than 13,000 structures remained under threat as of Jan. 8. 

“Neighbors have taken care of neighbors. We ALL take everything for granted because we are all living our lives but when it hits your community, it’s particularly shocking,” Curtis wrote in the caption to her post. “Life on life’s terms. If ever there was need for the use of the phrase MY HAND IN YOURS, it is right now. Take care of each other. Stay out of the way and let the firefighters do their work. Pray if you believe in it and even if you don’t, pray for those who do.”

Some of the Academy Award-winning actor’s friends, including David Krumholtz, checked in within the comments of her Instagram in reaction to her safety post. “Good grief,” Krumholtz, 46, wrote. “So sorry Jamie!”

Curtis, who celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with husband Christopher Guest on Dec. 18 — the couple share daughters Annie, 38, and Ruby, 28 — is among a number of actors and celebrities who have been directly affected by the fires. Mark Hamill confirmed early Jan. 8 on Instagram that he and his wife Marilou safely evacuated Malibu, Calif., and were now at their daughter Chelsea’s home in Hollywood. “Most horrific fire since ’93,” Hamill, 73, wrote of the blaze.

Actors like Adrien Brody and Clark Gregg also shared photos from the fires to Instagram late on Jan. 7 and early Jan. 8. “Sending prayers and gratitude to the brave first responders and to all of you affected by this devastating moment,” Brody, 51, wrote in his post, while Gregg, 62, shared a photo of Los Angeles from the air. “Speechless,” he wrote.
