Il Paradiso del Cibo at 40 Walmgate has been closed since Sunday but is due to be back open this coming Saturday.
Owner Paolo Silesu told the Press: “We will make it more comfortable. We also have a pizza oven coming from Italy. We are just refreshing the restaurant to celebrates 20 years. It will be 20 years in July.”
Paolo says what makes his restaurant special is that it is ”authentic’.

Paolo himself came to the UK from Sardinia in 1989, when he says York was “a smaller place.” And the weather was colder with “freezing weather right up to February.”
The work has taken place in the quieter winter months, though Paolo says “business is pretty good.”
January was “quiet”, he continued, but “half term sees more tourists coming out from around the world. The locals also come out a lot more.”
And whilst workmen are busily getting everything ready, Paolo added another change would be a new spring menu, with a few changes and seasonal ingredients.
It all up to a recipe for success at the restaurant, which gained a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Award for 2024, earning 4.5 stars out of five ranking it 97 out of 724 restaurants in York, based on 1551 reviews.
