The Terriers have made an impressive start to the season, taking 22 points from their opening 11 games
Huddersfield Town defender Ibane Bowat has acknowledged that “expectations are high” as his side set their sights on securing promotion from League One at the third attempt.
The Terriers have made an impressive start to the season, taking 22 points from their opening 11 games of the campaign to sit second in the table ahead of facing Wigan Athletic at Accu Stadium tomorrow lunchtime.
Town head into tomorrow’s fixture off the back of a 4-1 victory over Peterborough United on Tuesday evening, and following that win, Bowat told BBC Radio Leeds: “I think there’s a lot of demands on this club. We know as a club where we should be, and we’re working hard to be able to get there.
“Expectations are high, and we put a lot of pressure on ourselves, because we know that we can achieve good things, and it’s nights like these when the energy’s a bit lower, we have to find another gear and find a way to go and win the game, which is what we managed to do tonight.”
Despite winning by a convincing scoreline, Bowat felt his side were not at their best prior to the interval against Posh, with the centre-back saying: “I think it was a bit of a slow first half. I think the energy was low, not winning our duels, not getting up to the ball, not landing on second balls, and just a bit of a slow start.
“Perhaps you could put it down to the travelling, but it’s a competitive league, and we have to be ready for these nights even when we’re not 100 per cent at it. I think second half we came out fast, and then we amended things in the second half, which was good.”
Town host a Wigan side next up that sit bottom of the table after ten games, and discussing the part that the Terriers’ supporters can play in tomorrow lunchtime’s fixture, Bowat added to HTTV: “The fans are vital. Especially when you’re travelling all the way to Plymouth, travelling up and down the country, and when you feel like you need a bit of some extra boost from somewhere, we know we can count on the fans, and we really feel that when we’re on the pitch, so they’re going to be vital against Wigan on the weekend.”
The Terriers will remain without skipper Ryan Ledson for tomorrow’s clash, who has received a three-match ban from the FA for misconduct.
The captain admitted to using “abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official around the tunnel area at half-time, and also after the final whistle” in the 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday, and has been fined £7,000 alongside his suspension.
Ledson, who has been sidelined for the last five league games with an elbow injury, will also miss upcoming encounters against Bradford City and Luton Town.
