Ethan Brierley is a wanted man
Huddersfield Town are reportedly “leading the race” to sign Brentford midfielder Ethan Brierley.
According to Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, “a number of EFL clubs” are interested in recruiting the midfielder, but Town are “determined to land the player”.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Exeter City, with the midfielder making 47 appearances in all competitions for the Grecians. Brierley joined the Bees in 2023 from Rochdale, but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League outfit.
The midfielder came through the youth ranks at Rochdale to feature 45 times for the first team, prior to sealing his switch to Brentford. Brierley’s stint at Exeter was the second loan spell of his career to date, having also played for Spennymoor Town in 2022.
The Terriers have made one signing so far this summer, with Ashley Fletcher having joined on a free transfer from Blackpool, while Mickel Miller, Rhys Healey and Alfie May have departed the club since the end of last term.
Town have also been linked with a loan move to bring in goalkeeper Matty Young from Sunderland, with Lee Nicholls rumoured to be signing for Championship outfit Preston North End.
