A host of young stars have new deals
Huddersfield Town have confirmed that a host of their academy players have signed new contracts.
The Terriers announced last week that Jay Sway, George Iorpenda, Max Murray and George Sebine have all penned new deals until the summer of 2029, while Dan Vost has signed a new contract until the summer of 2028.
All five players made their first-team debuts last term, with Sway, Sebine and Vost each making a handful of appearances, while Iorpenda and Murray featured in one game apiece.
The under-21s had a successful campaign last season, as they won the Professional Development League play-offs following a sixth-placed finish in the division.
“What we have seen from all five of these young professionals since they have arrived at the academy was a real focus to improve as individuals,” director of player development Jon Worthington told his club’s website.
“Their commitment to that can be seen through their successes in both the under-21s and when they have stepped into the first team to gain deserved experience.
“I’d like to congratulate them all on extending their contracts here with Huddersfield Town, and look forward to continuing working with them, as they hopefully develop into successful senior professionals.”
The Terriers have since confirmed that Ian Togo, Francis Hurl, and Marlie Neil have also penned new deals, and U21s head coach Michael Tonge told his club’s website: “We are delighted to extend Ian, Francis and Marlie’s time at the club, following a successful season for all involved. Their continuous drive to improve is admirable, and I hope that is something that they continue to have throughout their time at the academy, and further through their careers. Congratulations to all three of them.”
Meanwhile, the Terriers have also announced that Nic Idemudia, Luke Schofield, Zac Bowker, Hugo Bennett and Dylan Tawodzera have signed their first professional contracts, and Tonge added: “Firstly, I’d like to congratulate Nic, Luke, Zac, Hugo and Dylan on committing their futures here.
“Obviously, I’m extremely happy that all five lads have signed contracts with the club, after we have seen an abundance of professionalism, dedication and talent from them throughout their time in the academy.
“This is the next step in their journey, and we will continue to give them the support that they need to fulfil their potential. What we need to see from them is their continued drive to improve, whilst contributing to their team on and off the pitch.”
Michael Onyeka has also since penned his first professional contract, and Worthington said: “Since Michael joined our under 9-16s programme as an under-16 last year, he has come on leaps and bounds in terms of his efficiency at the top end of the pitch. His ability matched with his confidence makes him a real threat in the final third, which makes him a valuable member of our academy moving forward.
“To make the steps from under-16s to 18s, to then playing a role in our under-21s successful post-season campaign is a real credit to the work that Michael has done in training, away from the field, and when playing on the pitch.
“With what we are looking for in our academy, Michael’s drive and aspirations balance well with the culture that we continue to install. That’s why he has been rewarded with the early offer of a professional contract.”
