One of the stars of Hillbilly Elegy, the 2020 Ron Howard film based on the life of JD Vance, is throwing some shade at the vice presidential candidate. Vance came under fire recently after an interview with Tucker Carlson resurfaced from 2021, where he lamented that the United States was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.” Since then, a number of celebrities have come out against Vance, and you can now add Glenn Close to the mix.
On her Instagram account, Close shared a picture of herself smiling with her cat, Eve. In the captain she said that “Eve would have left a bleeding mouse head in the bed of anyone who criticized any kind of lady with a CAT,” obviously throwing some shade at Vance over his remarks. Check out the post below.
Close stars as Vance’s grandmother Bonnie “Mamaw” Vance in Hillbilly Elegy, which traces Vance’s life from childhood to his time as a Yale graduate. Told in nonlinear fashion, the movie was based on his 2016 memoir of the same name, with Close being nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you talk to), she was denied a trophy at each ceremony. The film also stars Amy Adams as Beverly Vance, his mother, with Gabriel Basso and Owen Asztalos both portraying the controversial political figure at different points in his life.
Debuting on Netflix in 2020, Hillbilly Elegy was met with harsh criticism, and currently holds a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics. The film was nominated for several Golden Raspberry Awards, including one for Worst Director for Ron Howard, marking just the second time in his career he received a nomination from the organization, with the first being for 2006’s The Da Vinci Code.
Glenn Close Joins a Growing List of People Blasting JD Vance
Close’s recent post is just another from a growing list of people that have been throwing shade at JD Vance thanks to his childless cat lady comments. Friends and The Morning Show star Jennifer Aniston recently took to social media to blast Vance, saying, “I truly cannot believe this is coming from a potential VP of the United States.” Her words have been echoed by the likes of Whoppi Goldberg, Lupita Nyong’o, legions of Taylor Swift’s fans, and even the United States Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg.
Vance has certainly managed to piss off a lot of cat owners with his comments, which could spell bad news for him and Donald Trump at the polling stations come November, despite the full backing of the Republican Party and their MAGA faithful. Will they manage to claw their way to victory, or will Kamala Harris and Tim Waltz neuter them and take the White House? Stay tuned, America. Stay tuned.
