Cool girls everywhere, from L.A. to London, are trading in this spring classic for a chicer cropped version. The wardrobe staple, the trench coat, has undergone a major makeover. Shortened to the waist, the cropped trench coat trend is dominating spring 2026 coat racks.
A chic trench coat outfit is a reasonable expectation for spring, but this shrunkated silhouette has unlocked something in the fashion set. Whether it’s worn as a top with a column skirt or French-girl capris, or cinched with trousers, or unbuttoned with cigarette jeans, the light-weight jacket is a fresh alternative to its floor-length counterpart. These shortened trenches run the gamut from cape-esque silhouettes to funnel-neck styles to oversized belted ones.
