Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is set to premiere in theatres on September 12 and is the first film since the sad passing of Dame Maggie Smith.

Downton Abbey fans met the news with a mixture of excitement and dread, with many decrying the fact that this would be the last-ever film.
One upset fan of the ITV show and subsequent film franchise said: “They should make a Downton Abbey movie annually until the end of time.
“I want a Downton Abbey movie in 2057 where the Crawleys’ grandchildren experience Beatlemania,” while another added: “No, it can’t end!”
A third said: “I am excited for the new movie, but it’s bittersweet to see it all end. This has been a wonderful journey.”

However, many fans were happy to see the drama coming to an end, with on writing on social media: “I really enjoyed the early seasons of Downton Abbey, but think it was time to say goodbye a while ago.”
Others expressed pure excitement, with one viewer penning: “IM AT WORK RN AND IM TRYING SO HARD TO ACT NORMAL.”
Another said: “Praise Christ that Downton Abbey is still here for those of us who cannot stand endless superhero movies!”
