Mr Bentham was part of a stunt team performing at the inaugural balloon festival on Town Field during an evening show.
“Miraculously” he was expected to make a full recovery, his team confirmed.
An ambulance went to his aid in the arena after the crash, with spectators asked to the leave the area to allow emergency services to work.
In a statement, Stunt World International said it apologised “for any inconveniences and distress that was caused” to spectators and praised the “heroic” people who helped.
“There will be a full investigation into what went wrong and how we can amend it and hopefully prevent this from happening again any time in the future,” it added.
