In a historic appointment, Dior has named Jonathan Anderson as its sole creative director, giving the Northern Irish designer complete control over the fashion house’s men’s, women’s, and couture collections. This marks the first time since Christian Dior himself that a single figure will shape the brand’s entire creative vision. At 40, Anderson’s rise caps years of critical acclaim, most recently for his transformative work at Loewe. Dior CEO Delphine Arnault hailed him as “the most talented designer of his generation,” citing his modern yet empathetic approach to fashion.
Anderson’s appointment comes amid a major transition for the luxury brand, which will skip July’s haute couture shows for the first time in its 78-year history to prepare for the designer’s debut. Known for iconic designs like Rihanna’s Super Bowl maternity look and Harry Styles’ viral cardigan, Anderson blends cultural resonance with high-fashion craft. In a statement, he called his new role a “great honour” and promised to continue Dior’s legacy while writing a new chapter. His first menswear collection is set for release this month, with womenswear to follow later in the year.

Afrobeats continues to assert its global dominance as Nigerian stars Pheelz and BNXN celebrate a Platinum certification in France for their 2022 hit single, “Finesse.” The track, known for its infectious hook “If I broke na my business…”, became an instant anthem, spreading from Nigeria to global streaming charts and TikTok trends. With over 100,000 units sold in France, the certification highlights not only the song’s staying power but also the genre’s growing impact on the European music scene.
Produced by Pheelz and featuring BNXN’s smooth, melodic vocals, “Finesse“ captured universal themes of ambition and everyday hustle, making it relatable across cultures. The achievement marks a pivotal moment for both artists, solidifying Pheelz’s evolution from producer to international act and adding to BNXN’s rising global résumé. More broadly, it underscores France’s role as a key market in Afrobeats’ worldwide rise and signals that the genre’s influence is no longer emerging—it’s here, and it’s unstoppable.

Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of highly-rated Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP, marking their first acquisition of the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas, has signed a long-term contract that runs until 2033. Essugo, a Portugal Under-21 international, made history at Sporting as their youngest-ever debutant at just 16 years and six days old, and is expected to join Chelsea’s squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
The Blues reportedly paid €22.3 million (£18 million) for Essugo, who is being lined up as a key piece in new head coach Enzo Maresca’s midfield plans. Whether playing alongside Moises Caicedo or serving as a dynamic alternative, the young talent has drawn high praise from Portuguese football figures, including Luis Dias, who touted him as a future Real Madrid-caliber player. Essugo will link up with his new teammates ahead of Chelsea’s Club World Cup opener against LAFC on June 16.
