Daniel Day-Lewis has made his long-awaited return to acting, and it already looks like another generational performance by the legendary movie star. Directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, Anemone explores the complex bonds between brothers, fathers, and sons. It’s been more than seven years since 2017’s The Phantom Thread, but Day-Lewis does not skip a beat in the first footage from the upcoming thriller.
Focus Features released the official trailer for Anemone, which centers on Day-Lewis, as well as Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green. Plot details have been notably scarce, but it’s hard to deny that the star presence is more than enough to justify seeing the film in theaters. Couple that with an engaging and visually appealing trailer, Anemone immediately becomes one of the most anticipated projects for the rest of the year. The film will exclusively hit theaters on October 3. You can check out the trailer below.
Daniel Day-Lewis wrote the script for Anemone alongside his son, Ronan, who is making his feature-length directorial debut. They teamed up with cinematographer Ben Fordesman, whose previous work includes Saint Maud and Loves Lies Bleeding, as well as costume designer Jane Petrie (The Crown) and production designer Chris Oddy (Zone of Interest). Of course, time will tell if the film will live up to the hype, and if it will spark another acting run for Daniel, who currently has no projects officially in development. The official logline for Anemone:
Anemone explores the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, and the dynamics of familial bonds.
