D Frames York in Clifford Street is closing its city centre shop after 10 years of trading at different sites across the centre of York.
In a notice posted on its door, the framing shop sited the price of city centre leases for its decision to move out after being unable to find ‘a store at a reasonable price within the city centre’ following the end of its Clifford Street lease.

In order to keep trading, it will be moving to Front Street in Acomb with its last day in the city centre being March 22.
Owner Dee Weaver said: “As our current lease comes to an end and the inevitable rent review comes in, we have had some difficult decision to make.
“We have tried to look at other units in the city centre but with no success as every unit is either way too big or way too expensive which means we could not maintain our great prices and stay in business.
“The only option has been to relocate out of the city or close altogether. Moving to Acomb saves on rent and service charges. We really do want to stay open and really focus on our core business.”
The notice posted in the window of the Clifford Street shop (Image: Alice Kavanagh) Dee continued: “Our niche has always been great service at a reasonable price, our place has always been in between the amazing high-end framers and the mass-produced frames from the likes of B&Q and Ikea.
“We have always helped and supported the local artist and have a great rate of repeat customers. We strive to provide the best service we can, as seen with our reviews online.
“As we are a small independent family run store, I would like to thank all my customers for their support over the years and hopefully see you in Acomb.”
D Frames will be closing its doors in Clifford Street on March 22 with plans to move into its new premises at 79 Front Street by the end of March.
