Coneysthorpe, with a squad of multiple-times York Men’s champion Martin Lowe, Calum Goodwin and youngsters Mia Longman and Louis Fell, lead the way on 50 points with Shiyi Ling B close behind on 46.
Both teams are unbeaten, having drawn 5-5 against each other.
Coneysthorpe beat defending champions York RI A 6-4, who lie in fourth place on 35 points, having played one match fewer.
Their squad consists of current York Men’s champion Josh Bramley, former Men’s champion Richard Moss, who has returned after a few seasons out, Filip Wojtkowiak and Shahriar Masoudi.
Shiyi Ling B also beat York RI A 6-4, with Mikey Arnold winning his three singles matches. The other players in the Shiyi Ling B squad are Adam Fox, Debbie Scott and Jake McCarthy.
York RI A defeated Topspin A, the other main contenders, 8-2 with Filip Wojtkowiak winning three.
Topspin A lie third on 41 points, and their squad is Jonny Wooldridge, James Atkins, Cris Carcamo and Joni Caspi. These four teams have had comfortable wins against other teams in the division.
Shiyi Ling C (42 points) and Wigginton B (36) lead the way in Division 2, both having won their five matches.
Daniel Nicholson has played in all five matches for Shiyi Ling and has won all 15 of his singles games.
Gary Tranter and Benji Richardson, a student at St Johns, are also unbeaten so far for Shiyi Ling. Adam Exley and Rich Harrison complete their squad.
18-year-old Dylan Pottage has started the season well for Wigginton, having won two out of three singles in each of the four matches he has played in.
Dave Quinlan, Mick Robinson, Des Healey and Alaa Albaroudi have also won the majority of their singles games for Wigginton.
Wigginton E are unbeaten at the top of Division 3 with 39 points but they have played one more match than their closest rivals.
Topspin C are second on 33, Wigginton D, the only other unbeaten team, are on 31, and Clarence E has 30.
16-year-old Harry Male has only lost one of his 13 singles games for Wigginton E, Tom Lines has won 13 out of 15 for Clarence E, and Paul Kozyra has won all 9 of his games for Shepherds B.
The league has increased to 49 teams, from 44 last season, and there is a new club, Red Goat Climbing Company.
With this influx of new teams Divisions 4 and 5 are being played in two phases.
In the first phase there are two sections of eight teams playing each other once.
The top four in each section will then make up Division 4 and the bottom four will make up Division 5.
As we approach the end of the first phase, it is looking like Clarence F, Wilberfoss A, Topspin D and one of Clarence H, Red Goat B and Wigginton I from Section A, and Shiyi Ling D, Wilberfoss B, Red Goat A and York RI F from Section B will go into Division 4.
The second phase will start week commencing November 18, with teams in Divisions 4 and 5 playing each other home and away.
