Coco Gauff closed out her spectacular 2024 season with a historic victory at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, defeating China’s Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) to claim her first championship in this elite tournament. At 20 years old, Gauff is the youngest WTA Finals winner since Maria Sharapova’s triumph in 2004, underscoring her rapid rise among the sport’s top talents. Her victory also secured a record-breaking payout of $4.8 million, the largest single prize in WTA history, marking another significant milestone in her already stellar career.
In her journey to the title, Gauff demonstrated resilience and poise, defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping semifinal and overcoming No. 2 Iga Świątek in the group stage. This feat made her the youngest player since Kim Clijsters in 2002 to beat the top two players in a single WTA Finals event. The match against Zheng also marked the youngest WTA Finals pairing since 2004, a record that Gauff was thrilled to learn. Reflecting on her achievement, Gauff noted the fitting coincidence, saying, “The year I was born was the last time, so in my lifetime, basically, I’ve never seen it. That’s pretty cool.”

Drake recently offered fans a rare and touching glimpse into his role as a father, sharing a heartfelt letter from his seven-year-old son, Adonis. Mohamed Salah continues to etch his name into Premier League history, equalling an impressive record held by Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney during Liverpool’s recent 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. In a stellar performance at Anfield, Salah both scored and assisted, helping Darwin Nunez to a goal and adding one himself to seal Liverpool’s win. This brought him level with Rooney for the most games with both a goal and an assist in a single Premier League match. The 32-year-old forward is now poised to surpass the record in the coming fixtures, with plenty of opportunities to establish himself as the outright leader.
This milestone comes as speculation swirls around Salah’s future with Liverpool, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season. Despite the uncertainty, Salah remains focused, driving Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table with a five-point lead. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, he has scored 221 goals and provided 99 assists, cementing his status as one of the club’s all-time greats. Salah’s next chance to break Rooney’s record comes on November 24, when Liverpool face Southampton, a game where the Egyptian star will look to add yet another remarkable achievement to his storied career.
