Bugweed’s, an award-winning, family-run business, has opened the venture at Unit 3, Marrtree Business Park, Stirling Road, York.
Situated on Clifton Moor – between Ten Pin Bowling and Roko Health Club, and just opposite the new Starbucks Drive Thru – this was where a B&M store burnt down in 2018.
Having been runner up in the “Best Independent Retailer in the North of England” category at the prestigious Sewing Awards (nominated and voted for by customers), Bugweed’s says it continues to build on its reputation for excellence in offering a wide range of crafting supplies at reasonable prices whilst delivering first-rate customer service.

After merging its previous retail businesses, which offered fabric, yarn, and sewing machines from distinct locations, Bugweed’s now offers all its high-quality crafting supplies under one roof.
The company says dressmakers, quilters, knitters, crocheters, embroiderers and cross-stitcher will be hard-pressed to find a better destination to fulfil their crafting needs.
Many of the ranges stocked are amongst the largest in the county, with many products not available elsewhere in the York area and beyond.

To celebrate its opening, Bugweed’s is hosting a range of workshops and events every day until Saturday February 1, many of which are free.
The events range from workshops to learn a new skill to special visits from industry celebrities – including an afternoon tea with renowned pattern designers Debbie Bliss and Chloe Elizabeth Birch – offering exclusive opportunities for crafters to meet the experts and gain invaluable insights.
Bugweed’s director Rebecca Butler said: “We’re over the moon to welcome customers to our new store.”
“Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and, frankly, quite humbling. As a family business, we’ve always been passionate about providing the crafting community with a wide choice of quality products, coupled with excellent customer service.
“This space allows us to bring together the best supplies, tools, and inspiration for our wonderful community of crafters, as well as providing more space and greater opportunities for groups such as our free Knit & Natters and Quilts for Care Leavers, which enable to give back to our local community.”
The new location is open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm, with extended hours on Thursday until 9pm. Parking is available.
