The reality TV world was shaken when news broke that Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor, one of the most talked-about couples from Vanderpump Rules and The Valley, decided to end their marriage. After five years together, Brittany filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to The Los Angeles Times. This term seems simple but often hides a deep well of emotional turmoil. The decision surprised many, but as details emerged, it became clear that Brittany’s choice was anything but sudden.
The beginning of the end
On August 27, Brittany Cartwright filed for divorce from Jax Taylor. The couple had experienced a great deal together, and they had a three-year-old son named Cruz. They were once the golden couple of reality TV, loved by fans for their chemistry and dramatic storylines. But behind the scenes, things weren’t as perfect as they seemed.
The first signs of trouble came earlier in the year when Brittany and Jax announced they were taking some time apart. This separation marked the beginning of the end, with Brittany eventually listing January 24, as their date of separation in the divorce documents. It was a move that left many fans in shock, as the couple had always seemed determined to work through their issues.
The final straw
According to inside sources, Brittany didn’t come to this decision lightly. She had been reflecting on her marriage for months, trying to decide what was best for her and her son. But there were certain things she couldn’t overlook. The couple had been living in a “tumultuous cycle” that Brittany felt she needed to escape. It wasn’t just one event that led to the divorce but a buildup of many issues that she could no longer ignore.
Friends close to the couple revealed that their relationship had become increasingly toxic. Brittany, who had always been strong-willed and determined, finally reached her breaking point. In an episode of Watch What Happens Live earlier this year, she mentioned a particularly bad fight that opened her eyes to the problems in her marriage. “It was like a veil was lifted, and I noticed everything wrong,” she told host Andy Cohen. “You know they always say a woman can hit her breaking point, and then it’s hard to return from that. It was just a very toxic situation that I felt like I needed to remove myself from.”
Brittany’s new chapter
The day Brittany filed for divorce, she posted a glamorous photo on Instagram with the caption, “Getting my sparkle back. ✨.” It was clear that the TV star was ready to start a new chapter in her life, one where she could focus on her happiness and the well-being of her son. Fans and friends rallied around her, offering words of support and encouragement. Fellow reality star Scheana Shay commented, “Shining bright, baby!” while others praised her for making a difficult but necessary decision.
In the weeks leading up to the divorce filing, Brittany had been living separately from Jax. She moved out of their shared home in Valley Village, California, and had been staying in an Airbnb. This physical separation seemed to reflect the emotional distance that had been growing between them for some time.
Jax’s response
While Brittany Cartwright appeared to be confident, Jax Taylor reportedly struggled with mixed emotions. Sources close to him revealed that he was sad about the divorce, but also knew it was the right decision. Jax, who had always been known for his larger-than-life personality on reality TV, was now facing the reality of life without his wife and son by his side every day.
In July, Jax checked himself into a 30-day treatment facility to focus on his mental health. This move was seen as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage, but it seems that even this was not enough to repair the damage that had been done. Despite his efforts, Brittany was firm in her decision to end the marriage. As one source put it, “Brittany has reached her limit and remains strong to do what is best for herself and her son.”
Moving Forward
As Brittany and Jax navigate the divorce process, their primary focus is on their son, Cruz. Brittany has requested primary custody, with Jax being granted visitation rights. Both parents are reportedly committed to co-parenting amicably, despite the challenges they’ve faced in their marriage.
The divorce has also raised questions about their future on The Valley, the reality shows they both star in. While Brittany seems ready to move on, Jax is expected to continue filming. This could make for some interesting dynamics in the upcoming season, as fans will no doubt be eager to see how the couple handles their new reality.
The end of an era
For fans of Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor, this divorce marks the end of an era. Their relationship, once a focal point of reality TV drama, has come to a close. But while their marriage may be over, both Brittany and Jax have the opportunity to start new chapters in their lives. Brittany’s journey of rediscovery and Jax’s path to self-improvement are stories that many will continue to follow, both on and off the screen.
