Fans say it is a massive step in the right direction
Huddersfield Town FC fans are desperate to “bring on” the development of a 141-room hotel at Accu Stadium, after initial plans were filed with Kirklees Council last week.
The beloved club is gearing up to take on its first expansion project since acquiring the stadium and the 53-acre surrounding site in September 2025. The proposed hotel is planned to be adjoined to the Terriers Together North Stand, which would need to close for the 2027/28 campaign while works are carried out, with the remainder of the stadium unaffected.
For Terriers fans, the planning application appears to be a “massive step” in the right direction, with many backing the big plans.
Speaking to residents, one local, wearing a Huddersfield Town shirt, said it would be an “amazing way” to bring locals to Huddersfield. Speaking alongside his friend, the fan, who did not wish to be named, said: “It can really only be a step in the right direction. I have been in the boxes before, so I say bring it on.”
Elsewhere on social media, the response has been equally positive, with hundreds of fans ecstatic about the news. Commenting under the initial post made by Huddersfield Town FC, over 200 people shared their thoughts, with many welcoming the “excellent foresight and planning” from the clubs owner, Kevin Nagle.
One ‘Top Fan’ wrote: “Exciting plans for the club. We should 100 per cent get behind them, the club and the owner. His investment is and will be a vital part of the club for years to come.”
Others pointed out that a larger investment would mean a “bigger” player budget, with one fan thanking Mr Nagle for the “continued investment”. The comment read: “Anyone with half a brain will know that internally generated revenue (from the hotel) will mean we can have a larger player budget.
Another simply wrote: “I can’t see a downside to this.”
Speaking on the plans, Mr Nagle said: “We have been working closely with experts to focus on what would benefit not only Huddersfield Town the most, but the town of Huddersfield as well.
“We have teamed up with Hilton Hotels to bring the Hilton Garden Inn brand, as they share our same vision that goes far beyond the building itself.
“Having acquired the full 53-acre site surrounding our home in HD1 last year, this marks the true start of our first stage of development and initial steps toward becoming a real year-round destination and venue, breathing new life and possibilities into the club and our stadium.
“I have stated from the first time I stepped into Huddersfield just over three years ago that the potential is here. I fell in love with the place from day one. And with the help of the team we’ve assembled, we are fully focused on turning that potential into a reality for all to benefit from.”
