Blind Jack’s is a family-owned independent pub at 19 Market Place, Knaresborough, and has been a free house since 1991.
Noted for its craft beer, real ale and historic setting, in a building dating back to 1741, the venue is also a CAMRA favourite, also appearing in its Good Beer Guide.
Now, it has made a shortlist of six in the Great British Pub Awards for its beer.

Blind Jack’s director Christian Ogley called the placing “absolutely mindblowing” to be shortlisted when the UK has 46,000 pubs.
“We are so chuffed,” he said excitedly on social media.
““It doesn’t if we don’t win. To get this far is insane. Thank you for supporting us.”
Christian continued: “It’s a proper, family business. We have the best team. We love our beer, working with breweries and people. To get recognition for that, it’s the most incredible feeling. It’s really bloody cool!”
Blind Jack’s is named after the 18th Century local roadbuilder, John “Blind Jack” Metcalf, who was a legendary pioneer despite his disability.
Tripadvisor awards it 4.6 stars out of five based on 84 reviews. Recent comments include ‘great little pub’ , ‘what an amazing place’ and ‘wonderful pub, deserving of its many awards.’
Google awards Blin Jack’s 4.7 stars based on 616 reviews. Recent comments on Google include ‘Great, little, old pub’ and ‘A very cool little bar. Importantly a great section of beer.’
The Great British Pub Awards celebrate excellence in a wide variety of categories and take place in Leeds on Wednesday September 24.
Perhaps surprisingly for a city known for its pubs, there are no finalists from York, but the Mayfield at Seamer, near Scarborough, also makes a shortlist of six in the best pub entertainment category.
