THE 500 per cent price hike in Bishopthorpe Road car parking is nothing short of highway robbery that Dick Turpin would be proud of.
The only difference is that this can be claimed to be legal and protected – and none of the councillors will be imprisoned.
How on earth can City of York Council justify this? Appalling. Just screw the motorist for every penny (a la Sadiq Khan of London).
From 80p to £4.85 – per hour! My blood is boiling so goodness knows how the Bishy Road traders in this lovely part of York are feeling. Sadly I won’t be popping into Thomas’s for a vegetable pasty anymore.
Hourly car park charges are fraud and I want to start a campaign in Britain through ‘Which’ magazine – the consumers champion – to ban this thieving – we should only pay for what we use – per minute which works out at 8.08p.
At Christmas in the number-plate-recognition car park in Piccadilly it took me 15 minutes to find a space and another ten minutes to pay for the ticket. Scandalous. The council’s executive member for transport Cllr Kate Ravilious should look at her position carefully.
So you go over the one hour slot by five minutes (65 minutes) and its £9.70 from Monday to Thursday and £10.60 Friday and Saturday – and now £4 from 6pm.
This is cloud cuckoo land and it will have serious trading repercussions.
All the councils are allegedly strapped for cash. We don’t need expensive officers so reduce their salaries and reduce the councillors by half.

…WHAT is so special about the Bishopthorpe Road area that they should receive special consideration after complaining about massive car park increases?
The new parking charges apply to other parts of the city, including The Groves, where traders are also suffering at the hands of a council determined to squeeze every last farthing out of any potential customer of a local business.
The Groves is often regarded a less well off area than Bishopthorpe Road and a Labour council is supposed to favour more impoverished areas.
So is this a case of a Labour council pandering to the bleatings of vociferous champagne socialists?

President Trump: impeachment is just around the corner
IN reply to the letter printed on Monday, April 28, regarding Trump and the French President, I understand why that letter writer said he preferred Macron to Trump but what is forgotten here is that Trump has caused problems across the world with his stupid tariffs.
Trump just makes it up each day. He has almost single-handedly brought American to the edge of recession.
He has given unlimited power to Elon Musk, who then sacks many Government employees, regardless as to whether they were good at their job or not. Trump just talks rubbish all the time and when asked a serious question Trump just says “I don’t know”.
He shows admiration for the Russian dictator Putin to the point he appears to believe everything he tells him and is treating the American people with the authoritarianism of a dictator himself.
This is unforgivable and shows the depth of his stupidity.
I don’t think it will be long before Trump is no longer President of the USA because impeachment is just round the corner.
