The regeneration of a former Rowntree’s building in York is progressing well with completion due in Spring 2025.
The 21 homes on Shipton Road have attracted much interest from downsizers, with over 30 per cent of them reserved already.
Developed by Harrogate-based Inglehurst Property, Beverley Court promises stunning views of Homestead Park.
Much of the interest has come from people who want to change their lifestyle and downsize their home.
This has been backed up with research the developer has been doing on the downsizing market.

According to the Daily Telegraph, 80% of Yorkshire homes owned by people in their 60s are under-occupied.
With adult children long moved out, these “empty nesters” are more likely to spend Christmas and other holidays visiting their children and grandchildren than hosting them at home so even the occasional need for the extra space has diminished.
Matt Newton of Inglehurst Property said: “Many Gen Xers and Millennials, me included, have noticed a common theme among our Baby Boomer parents and in-laws: much of their wealth is often tied up in spacious homes that are now underutilised, with gardens that may feel more like a burden than a benefit.
“Downsizing isn’t just about moving into a smaller home – it’s about stepping into a lifestyle that better suits your current and future needs.”

Moving to an apartment development also offers more community and social focus, accessibility and with many new developments, such as Beverley Court, it offers a share of freehold, rather than leasehold, giving more control and lower service charges.
The original Beverley House was built in the late 19th century and served as the family home for the general manager of the Rowntree’s factory. It later housed the offices of the Joseph Rowntree Trust and the Local Government Ombudsman.
The development has been designed by award-winning architect Vincent and Partners and is being marketed by Stephensons tel: 01904 625533 www.BeverleyCourt-York.co.uk
