Caution: extreme coziness ahead.
We know: The cold weather is officially here, the sun is setting before the work day ends, and spring feels years away. But, there is at least one sartorial silver lining of this chilly and dark time of year — the oversized sweater.
They’re just as essential as a good pair of leggings or your favourite ride-or-die winter coat. We’re here to help you stay warm (and stylish) with our picks of the best ones to wear this winter.
How to style oversized sweaters
Whether you opt to style your favourite oversized sweater with a pair of flared leggings for a polished on-the-go look or give your cozy knit turtleneck a collegiate vibe with loafers, the oversized sweater offers endless outfit options.
Oversized knits are also an essential part of the quiet luxury aesthetic, and — hear me out — you don’t even need to wear the sweater the traditional way to pull it off. Tucking your sweater into your favourite pair of straight-leg jeans is also a great way to show off an oversized silhouette.
Whatever your styling preference, a trusty oversized sweater is so versatile for winter. Here are the best options to shop right now.
The best oversized sweater options to wear now
Oversized Ribbed Crewneck
If you looked up “oversized sweater” in the dictionary, this pullover is exactly what you’d see. With its simple ribbed design, subtle cuffed sleeves and split hem accents, this crewneck is all you need to pull off a stylish chilly-weather look.

Chunky Oversized Knit Pullover
The one downside of oversized sweaters is they can sometimes be a little *too warm* — and no one likes the feeling of being trapped in an overly heavy top all day. But on the flip side, a sweater that doesn’t provide enough insulation is also a miss. This chunky knit pullover somehow manages to flawlessly walk that fine line.
Made of merino wool and acrylic, this pullover’s lightweight feel keeps you comfortable and just warm enough all day long. Batwing sleeves and mock neckline add a chic touch to this already cute sweater.
Joe Fresh Plus Size Knit Oversized Crewneck
You can never go wrong with a crewneck knit and this affordable, size-inclusive top from Joe Fresh is perfect casual oversized sweater.
Available in two stunning colours that range in size from XS to 3X, this pullover has long raglan sleeves and a subtly stylish ribbed trim that elevate it from basic to sophisticated. Plus, the longer torso pairs beautifully with leggings.
Free People Ottoman Slouchy Tunic
We know it’s not socially acceptable to wear an actual blanket as a top, but finding a sweater that feels like your favourite throw is the next best thing. This Free People oversized sweater fits the bill.
Featuring a wide mock neckline and an elongated design that stops just at the mid-thigh, this soft, slouchy tunic sweater keeps you warm and cozy through the winter. Choose from four eye-catching colours.

This splendidly soft sweater lives up to its name.
Cable Knit Oversized Tunic
This loose-fitting, tunic-length top earns some major points for versatile wearing. Its low-hanging hemline makes it an ideal sweater to pair with leather leggings or jeans. Plus, you can even wear it off the shoulder for a chic, slouchy vibe.
Available in five rich colours and patterns, including a green striped option, this tunic is great for just about any setting, from a casual day at the office to brunch with the girls.
