Reflecting on his side’s emphatic three points over Neal Ardley’s Woking last Saturday, Hinshelwood viewed the match as an improvement on their recent string of performances, due to his players remaining consistent throughout the entirety of the match.
The City boss also admitted to enjoying watching the match, crediting Ardley’s side for their urgency to create throughout the contest, which meant that York had to give up some of their possession.
“In recent weeks we’ve put half a game together, but it was a good 90 minutes in my opinion,” Hinshelwood detailed.
“They had a lot of possession, a lot more than teams generally have, especially at our place.
“I think we were the ones that created the most chances and I don’t want to get caught up with us fascinating ourselves with possession, because I’m really not overly interested.
“I like to dominate games but it’s about what you do in the opponents box, and that was the most pleasing element about the game and I think we were a bit more clinical and created more chances than we have in previous games.”
York had taken an early lead after Josh Stones had met Tyrese Sinclair’s knock down from a corner, expertly powering a strike past Will Jaaskelainen in the Woking goal.
The advantage was doubled when Stones darted onto Alex Hunt’s through ball and squeezed an effort home, before a superb header from the striker completed his hat-trick with nine minutes remaining of normal time.
Hinshelwood was impressed with how Stones and his teammates proved clinical in front of goal when their chances did arrive, and felt as if it was due to Woking’s style of play under Ardley that those opportunities were possible.

“It’s served them well, I think out of their nine games they had won five and drawn four, so you’re not all of a sudden going to change that if it’s working for you.
“They’ve gone in and started playing a certain way and it’s getting them results.
“I knew that wasn’t going to change, and I thought it was quite refreshing having a proper game of football and not an attack vs defence scenario, it was nice.
“Everyone is going to have different ways, and it was a good game of football. I’m pleased we came out on top.”
Stones’ first goal broke something of a drought in front of goal for the City striker, who was dealing with a lot of pressure after signing for a reported substantial fee from Wigan Athletic.
Therefore it was no surprise to Hinshelwood when Stones’ York teammates swarmed him after the goal, with the boss pleased to see togetherness flourishing within the squad.
“It’s something I’m really passionate about, having a good togetherness in the team.
“I think that’s a good basis that you can try to generate, but when you’ve got good people in the building, it can manifest itself a lot quicker.
“That’s happened with this group, we’ve got good people that want to see the lads do well.
“They know that Josh has had a bit of a tough time and they want to see him do well.
“All of us are really delighted to see him get that hat-trick.”
