Exploring the Philippines in October can be a rewarding experience if you don’t mind a little rain. October is part of the country’s low travel season. The month invites fewer crowds and better rates, which means you can visit islands without the usual heat. You just need to know where to go and remember some tips to make it worth the trip!
Instead of visiting many places in a rush, I chose one destination and stayed longer. This gave me more time to work, rest, and enjoy the low-season perks. You can plan your October trip the same way!
What the Philippine Weather is Like in October
The weather varies between islands. Some may have short rain showers. Others may have several hours of rain. The days are often warm and humid. Sea conditions may also change quickly.
But even with the negatives, beach trips and outdoor activities are still possible. You just need a backup plan.
As for remote workers, leave a free day between island transfers. Don’t schedule an important client call right after a ferry or flight. This will avoid work problems during your trip.
7 Best Islands to Visit in the Philippines in October
1. Cebu for the City Comfort and Adventures
I love the fact that Cebu has two sides to everything you might want: city comfort and outdoor fun. You can choose to hit the malls for food trips and shopping sprees. Or you can go to the nearby islands and go swimming on the beaches like me.
My family and I didn’t like the crowds. So for my sister’s birthday on the 16th, we went snorkeling and sardine viewing at famous Moalboal. It was a scary but glorious experience!
You might think Cebu is crowded in October, but it usually isn’t. Most people come in on Christmas, so you can still enjoy city attractions, malls, and restaurants. You can also visit places outside the city when the weather is good.
Here are places to visit in Cebu:
- Moalboal
- Mactan Island
- Fort San Pedro
- Temple of Leah
- Bantayan Island
- Magellan’s Cross
2. Bohol for the Beaches and Countryside Views
My family and I like Bohol for its nature and comfort. It has a good balance between rest and adventure. I spent a quiet morning in Panglao. Then I explored the countryside when the weather cleared. I didn’t need to join many tours to enjoy the island, too.
In October, Bohol may feel calmer than it does during peak travel months. Rain is still possible, so it helps to keep your plans flexible. You can enjoy the beach on clear days and visit cafés, churches, or countryside spots when the weather changes.
Bohol offers a mix of beach and countryside activities. You can visit:
- Loboc River
- Old churches
- Chocolate Hills
- Panglao beaches
- Tarsier viewing areas
- Local cafés and restaurants
3. Boracay for an Easy Beach Escape
Boracay surprised me because it isn’t just a popular beach destination. It’s also one of the easiest. My visit was filled with soft sand, clear water, restaurants, and shops. Yes, it’s a little expensive. But it’s worth it!
In October, the island is easier to enjoy. There isn’t a long list of tours and many people coming in. You can more quietly walk the beach and eat at restaurants. If it’s rainy, you can work from your hotel, visit a café, or enjoy a slow meal.
Popular options to explore include:
- Willy’s Rock
- White Beach
- Sunset sailing
- Diniwid Beach
- Bulabog Beach
- Island-hopping tours
- Local cafés and restaurants
4. Siargao for the Community and Island Life
Siargao has that really nice mix of beach life and social atmosphere that I like. There are many activities to enjoy. People explore the beaches, cafés, and waves here. There’s also a growing remote-work community that makes up the vibrant social life.
The island is still very lively even in October. And it doesn’t need the heavy holiday crowds to be. But the weather can still affect lagoons, island tours, and other outdoor trips. My trip was disrupted when the rainy hours came. But it gave me an opportunity to do indoor activities with my family, which was very fun, too.
You can explore:
- Cloud 9
- Coconut Road
- Sugba Lagoon
- Nearby islands
- Magpupungko Rock Pools
- Local cafés and restaurants
5. Camiguin for the Quiet Days and Local Festivals
My Camiguin experience didn’t feel rushed. I toured all sorts of nature there: waterfalls, mountains, hot springs, and beaches. It may be a small island, but it’s a good choice for travelers who want fewer distractions.
October is pretty exciting for Camiguin visitors because that’s when they hold the Lanzones festival. Lanzones is a sweet fruit that grows abundantly on the island. Festival activities may include music, dancing, food, and community events. If you want to experience it like me, check for the official dates and program so you don’t miss it!
Popular places to visit in Camiguin include:
- White Island
- Sunken Cemetery
- Katibawasan Falls
- Ardent Hot Spring
- Old Church Ruins
- Local fruit farms
6. Bacolod for the Food and Colorful Celebrations
Bacolod on Negros Island is one of my favorite choices, especially for food, culture, and city comfort. It’s the place for exploring old structures and trying sweet local treats. I actually spent a few years there for my college studies and fell in love with the slow city trips I took.
I love that they hold the famous MassKara Festival in October, too! It was dazzling for me to see the bright masks and watch street dancing. It can get pretty crowded during this time. But it’s satisfying to experience the culture!
Nearby attractions in Bacolod include:
- The Ruins
- Local museums
- Public plazas
- Cafés and restaurants
- Silay heritage houses
- Mountain resorts outside the city
7. Palawan for the Nature and Flexible Adventures
Palawan is the last on my list, but it’s also one of my favorites. Every time I visit, I enjoy nature and the city. You get to choose between island tours and city comfort. I like the lagoons the most!
October here may offer quieter travel days in some areas. You may also find more room options than during peak season. However, tours can be affected by rain and rough sea conditions. Just check the weather news and prepare a backup plan.
People love to visit Palawan:
- Coron
- El Nido
- Puerto Princesa
- Underground River
- Island-hopping tours
- Lagoons and beaches
- Diving and snorkeling sites
